Have you been to Cameron Highlands? It is one of the tourist attractions in Pahang.
I am sharing this guide which was prepared for a friend fro his visit last school holidays. All the places mentioned here are based on my experience in Cameron Highlands.
If you are coming from Kuala Lumpur it is suggested that you take the old Tapah road. The first town you will pass is Ringlet. Just a small town. Drive through until you reach Bharat Tea estate. They have two stops on the left. For better parking area proceed to the second stop. You can have breakfast/morning tea at Bharat Tea Estate. Their shortbread is excellent (to my taste) and also their chocolate cake.
Next is Tanah Rata. This is the administrative town where you will find hospitals, banks and also many hotels around. The food court is one of the attraction. Gerai Mama (Halijah) is the place to go. If you are on education trip drop by at the MARDI Agro station. There is a lot of things you can learn about farming.
From Tanah Rata to Berinchang there is a small housing area named Taman Sedia. After checking in you may want to KHM Strawberry. They produce the best home made strawberry jam. They also sell ice cream but not the ice cream Malaysia type. By this time it is already late afternoon and you want to stroll at Berinchang town. My favorite shop at the Medan Selera is gerai no 8. The owner is Kak Sham a chubby lady who operates the stall with her husband. Or you may want to try eating at the corner before Masjid Kayangan Berinchang where there is a Malay restoran.
After Berinchang on the way to Kea Farm you will find Time Tunnel. Nice place to learn about Cameron Highlands. Next will be Kea Farm. Vegetables and strawberries are cheap but beware of the quality. Earlier it is difficult to park at thsi area but now you can park inside Kea Farm and walk up. My favorite snacks are sweet potatoes (keledek manis) and and cweet corn (jagung madu). Just after the Kea Farm junction if you are heading to Kg Raja you will find Raju Strawberry Farm on your left. They sell nice waffle and strawberries in chocolate.
Further up you will find all the butterfly farms, bee farms and just before the sharp turn at Ee Feng Gu Apiary there is a left junction going to Boh Sg Palas Estate. It is good for sightseeing. Best if you go early morning for breakfast. They are open 9 to 4. Further up is Tringkap town, then Kuala Terla and finally Kg Raja. Nothing much to see at those place but before Tringkap there is Rose Valley which has lost its attraction.
Pasar Malam (Night Market). The place to find food! If you want to enjoy eating strawberries buy at pasar malam. But they are not for taking home. The berries they sell here are overripe. So if you want to nring back some straberries home, buy them at the farms. Choose the ones that are partly red with some yellowish near the stalk.
I hope that the suggestions above will help you to plan your visit there. We have been to CH every year since 1997 except for one year. It is a place to relax and the best time is not on school holiday weekend.
Enjoy!!
